The Mother groans as we walk down the hall.
“She’s mine. You can’t have her! I planted that Seed!!! I will Reap the harvest!!! I will Reap the harvest!!!”
“To hell with it.”
I put the girl down, draw my sword, and throw it, planting it into the Mother’s chest. With this one act, I am dead to my Order and will be outcasted by my people. I kneel down to the girl, but she is looking past me.
“I saw your memories. I saw what she did to you. I saw all that you’ve endured. And in all that, I also saw bright spots. Some you may not even remember. Your Mamma loved you, and she did give you a name.”
Her eyes are on me now.
“When you were born, she said you were the sweetest little thing she ever saw. So, Mamma named you Honeybee.”
“Honeybee?”
“Yes.”
The smell of smoke is getting stronger.
“Come on. We have to go.”
I carry her out into the night.
The girl who was still waiting at the door grabs my arm!
“What did you do!?”
I shove into her knocking her away, but in the brief moment she had me, I saw something.
“More Seeds.”
“Say what?”
“More. Like you.”
“More monsters?”
“Not monsters. You were never a monster, Honeybee.”
